Responding to calls to update the 2008 Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) commissioned the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health to:
- Propose structures and processes for the future oversight and governance of the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada.
- Update the 2008 Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada through engagement with the Canadian public health community.
The National Collaborating Centres for Public Health (referred to as the NCCs) are committed to seeking input from a broad and diverse range of perspectives that make up the public health community in Canada. This project will engage and collaborate with key public health partners across the country to develop core competencies aligned with current needs and priorities of the public health system.
The NCCs recognize the public health community includes many people with different lived experiences and expertise across a range of disciplines and roles. This project will engage public health practitioners, decision- and policy-makers, educators, researchers and health-influencing community organizations. Broad and diverse engagement, including with Indigenous, Black and Francophone public health partners, is critical to ensure past and ongoing injustices and inequities are not further perpetuated.
