Report Submitted to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the Minister Responsible for Seniors on recommendations to Inform a Seniors Strategy for Ontario.

Dr. Samir K. Sinha, MD, DPhil, FRCPC Provincial Lead, Ontario’s Seniors Strategy

While aging is inevitable, the proportion of Ontario’s population living longer and living well into their later years has never been greater. Our province is also aging faster than ever before. In 2011, there were 1,878,325 Ontarians aged 65 years and older, representing 14.6 per cent of the province’s overall population.1 However, as the boomers started turning 65 last year, this demographic imperative will continue well into the future. In fact, the number of older Ontarians, defined in this report as those 65 years and older, is expected to double over the next two decades.
