Become a volunteer

The Toronto Council on Aging (TCA) is seeking enthusiastic, creative, and committed individuals who share a passion for celebrating and enhancing the lives of Toronto’s older adult community.

Are you looking for ways to give back to your community? If yes, join us! Become a Volunteer!

About the organization

The TCA is a charitable non-profit organisation which was incorporated in 1999 as a multi-generational, non-profit, charitable organisation, addressing the issues and concerns of older adults in Toronto. As the number and kinds of not-for-profit and for-profit organisations that now exist in Toronto has grown and, after many successful years trying to cover everything related to aging, TCA is refining its mission and establishing its niche by focussing on challenging ageism and showing the incredible work and influence of older Torontonians.

Our Vision: A Toronto where seniors are connected, influential and celebrated.

Our Mission: The TCA strives to showcase and enhance the power and contribution of seniors through celebration and connection.

The TCA is governed by an intergenerational 15-person volunteer Board of Directors (half below 55 and half 55+) and powered by TCA Volunteers who participate in TCA initiatives and spread the word about the strength and contribution of older adults in Toronto.

Expectations of volunteers

TCA Volunteers serve on various committees and projects that are ongoing in TCA to ensure that the work is spread around and we accomplish our goals. Sometimes volunteers join existing committees to assist with routine TCA tasks that are necessary to fulfil our mandate and keep the organisation running smoothly and efficiently. In other cases they work on particular TCA initiatives and activities.

The TCA has the following work underway (June 2025):

Initiatives committee is working on:

  • A major TCA Walk for Seniors as part of the Grand Parade happening in Toronto on September 25, 2025 and needs volunteers to support organising the event

  • A digital literacy program for seniors, funded by a federal grant, in partnership with the NORC Innovation Centre and Connected Canadians where volunteers could become mentors or help coordinate the program for TCA

Governance committee is working on:

  • Ensuring that TCA is compliant with the new ONCA regulations

  • Updating recruitment processes

  • Developing an endorsement policy

Communications committee is working on:

  • An updated website

  • Expanding the website content and reach and would love people who would write copy, interview seniors to tell their stories, provide pictures or videos, etc.

  • Routine sourcing of material and management of social media

  • Creating a regular newsletter to share the accomplishments and activities of seniors and for seniors far and wide

So there you have it. We hope you will find TCA an interesting and useful way to spend your time and share your talents
